EU barley plantings

May 12th, 2010 - Barley plantings have finished in large parts of the EU. In general, plantings in France, Germany and UK have decreased substantially. Due to severe winter conditions and winterkill of wheat, barley plantings in Scandinavia (Denmark, Sweden) increased slightly in respect to earlier reports. Overall it is estimated that EU plantings are down 10 to 15% compared to last year.

Weather conditions after planting have not been very favourable. In general, start of growing season was late, and only limited rainfall has been noted in the first weeks (France and UK). Only recently, during the current period of relative low temperatures, rains were sufficient in the different parts of the EU.
